How to use hopcalite correctly?
Hopcalite Application Cases and Proper Usage
1. Mine Refuge Chambers and Refuge Chambers
Hopcalite is used to purify air and remove
carbon monoxide in underground coal mine refuge chambers and refuge chambers. Important Notes:
Use with a Desiccant: Since humidity in chambers is often difficult to control below 45%, a desiccant must be added to the hopcalite's air inlet to remove moisture before passing the dry air through the catalyst layer.
Avoid Continuous Use: Hopcalite should not be left in operation for extended periods. Once the carbon monoxide concentration drops to a safe level, the catalyst layer should be removed to prevent moisture poisoning. Hopcalite should only be placed in an air purifier when carbon monoxide treatment is required.
2. Filter-Type Self-Rescuers and Gas Masks
Among personal protective equipment, hopcalite is directly related to user safety:
Sealed Storage: When not in use, the container must be sealed to prevent moisture absorption and inactivation. The shelf life is generally two years after manufacture (in a sealed, dry environment).
Ambient Temperature Note: The catalytic reaction will slow or nearly stop in temperatures below -10°C, making it unsuitable for use.
Concentration Limits: Hopcalite is suitable for use in environments with a carbon monoxide concentration of no more than 1% and an oxygen concentration of no less than 18%. At higher concentrations, the carbon dioxide produced by the reaction may be harmful to the human body, and the heat of the reaction may be unbearable.
Usage Precautions and Storage Requirements
Storage Conditions: Store in an environment with good air circulation and at a room temperature no higher than 40°C. Store in sealed plastic drums lined with thick plastic bags to prevent moisture absorption.
Safe Handling and Storage: Handle with care. Store separately and avoid mixing with oxidants, flammable materials, or corrosive substances.
Handling Precautions: Operators must operate in a closed environment with local exhaust ventilation to prevent dust release into the air. Avoid contact with oxidants and acids.
Proper use of hopcalite can effectively protect life, especially in mine rescue and industrial protection. Keeping in mind its water-sensitive nature, always using a desiccant and strictly adhering to environmental conditions, concentration requirements, and storage specifications are crucial to maximize its catalytic effectiveness.
